I’ve often thought about building my WordPress websites on the one day model, it’s got so much going for it.

I’ve heard stories of quite a few people who are managing this very effectively. However, it’s always been something that I’ve associated with a single freelancer. I’d always assumed that the margins were pretty tight, and therefore most likely to work with one person.

Well, Candy Phelps is on the podcast today to tell me (and you) otherwise!

She’s built a business creating websites in a day with a team, and, as you might have guessed, it’s all about the process. If you get the process right from the start, you can make this work, as you’ll have all your ducks in a row, so that there’s no time wasted and every member of your team know what to do and when to do it. It’s pretty interesting to see how this all hangs together.

We began by speaking about what made her go for this model of working. As opposed to the usual agency model, where you try to get as much money as possible for individual website builds, one might assume that this is more of a low fee model. Candy does not think so. She says that you can get good money for doing one day websites, if you do it right.

We talk about what doing it ‘right’ means and what steps she has in her process is. In fact, we spent a long time talking about the process, which is really where the value in this episode lies.

• how to capture leads and how those leads are vetted, to make sure that they’re suitable for her business
• what she does before the day to make sure that the website build is ready to start on the day
• we talk quite a lot about the builds day itself; what they do on the day, what tools they use
• which kinds of people work best for this type of service; she has an interesting psychological analysis about that
• finally we talk about the certification process that she offers to people, like you and me, who are hoping to build client websites on a one day model
